Artist:
The former child-star marks his silver jubilee with an inspiring collection of his favourite songs.
Calling it the first ‘rock’ album of his career, Jones is trying something new – a collection of songs, secular and (occasionally) devotional, that he has dusted off and made new. Jones picks up perennial favourites such as Cat Stevens’ Father & Son, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and Carole King’s You’ve Got A Friend lending his distinctive and passionate voice to these ready-made hits. And there’s no randomness in his choice of songs – every track is chosen for its emotion and spirituality, which are traits that are often used to describe Jones’ own material.
A definite highlight is the touching duet with fellow country-woman Cerys Matthews on Some Kind Of Wonderful – a perfect example of how Jones lends his genuine and unassuming talent to already-popular songs.
