Lee Ann Womack wants us to call her crazy on her seventh outing – but to no avail, as she bursts back into the limelight with one of her most significant (and sane!) releases to date.
Far from being “crazy”, everything about this album falls into place: Womack’s connection with George Strait on Everything But Quits is pleasantly unforced; her subtlety pushes each song’s limits without being too over the top; and Keith Urban’s below-the-radar guest vocals on The Bees are the perfect accompaniment to a great song.
Barroom blues, honky tonk and pop-country all get a look in, while the entire album manages to straddle both traditional and radio-friendly fields at the same time. This highly-anticipated release from one of country’s true leading lights will leave you wanting more.
