Nashville rock outfit Kings Of Leon earned lashings of praise for their Aha Shake Heartbreak album with its mix of post-punk sensibility and Southern rock swagger. Similarly, Because Of The Times is a brash, modern reworking of classic rock's glory days. Although songs like the moody single On Call, suggest a darker, more cerebral tone, Because Of The Times is equally as clever and enjoyable as its predecessor, especially with Caleb Followill's uniquely strangled vocals howling over crunchingly psychedelic guitars. Easily sliding between garage frenzy and rambling blues boogie, this is an artful, revealing and effortlessly impressive release.
