In The Works: The Classic Collection, well-known writer and performer Pam Ayres presents 120 of her most popular poems from the 1970s and 80s.
This collection includes favourites like The Battery Hen, Please Will You Take Your Children Home Before I Do Them In?, Sling Another Chair Leg On The Fire, Mother and, of course, Oh, I Wish I’d Looked After Me Teeth, which was voted one of Britain’s top ten comic poems.
As well as providing a general introduction to the book, Pam has written introductions to all her poems, many of which are now illustrated with Susan Hellard’s delightful line drawings.
Pam was awarded an MBE in 2004, showing the esteem in which this highly talented woman has long been held.
