Biography:
It takes an immensely talented author to get young, reluctant children to read books, and Jeff Kinney is one of them.
The author of the wildly popular Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series has had three Wimpy Kid instalments reach number one on the New York Times bestseller list. In addition to his bestselling achievements, two hit films based on the Wimpy Kid books have also been made.
Success took a while to find Jeff. He was born in 1971 in Maryland, America, and during his university years he ran a comic strip called Igdoof in the campus newspaper. It was this experience that made him realise that cartooning was his calling. But his comic strip wasn’t picked up by publishers after college, and in 1998 he began writing Diary Of A Wimpy Kid.
The best things are never rushed, and Jeff took six years writing and drawing until the Wimpy Kid comics saw the light of day, self-published on the internet. It was a runaway success and received millions of hits.
In 2007, the first Wimpy Kid book was published in print, and the rest, as they say, is history.
But despite his dizzying success story, he still remains working full-time at a Boston-based internet publishing company and lives with his wife and two young sons in southern Massachusetts.
Jeff’s life story of hard work, perseverance and family make him a great example to kids everywhere.
