Written between 20 April and 22 June 1945, A Woman In Berlin is a controversial and deeply affecting account of a German woman fighting for survival during and after World War II.
The anonymous author wrote about life within the falling city as it was invaded by the Russian army. She recorded her experiences and observations, discussing the rapes, food rationing and the overwhelming fear of death.
A Woman In Berlin was first published in America in 1954. In 2008, it became an acclaimed film of the same name, which was praised for exposing the mass rape of German women by the soldiers of the invading armies.
Author Kate Mosse called this biography, "one of the most powerful books I've ever read."

Quote:
"A war diary unlike any other... her account is characterised by its courage, its stunning intellectual honesty and by its uncommon powers of observation and perception. " – author Antony Beevor
